Children's understanding of the Impact of Alcohol on Health and Society

During one of our Alcohol Awareness workshops, as part of Reality Roadshow for 13/14 year old children, we asked each of the 100 children “name one thing you’ve learned about alcohol that you didn’t already know” This is an accurate collation of all their responses..

  • What are some dangers of alcohol consumption? ​

    • Alcohol kills more people than all illegal drugs combined. ​

    • It damages the brain, both immediately and long-term. ​

    • It can cause brain aneurysms, bleeding, and physical changes to the brain. ​

    • Alcohol thins the blood and can lead to brain damage. ​

    • Drinking while pregnant can harm unborn children, causing Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) which can maifest as brain or physical damage. ​

    • Alcohol is linked to car crashes, suicide, drowning and other accidents.

  • How does alcohol affect the brain? ​

    • Alcohol reaches the brain in 30 seconds. ​

    • It can make people unpredictable.

    • It alters the brain dramatically, causing memory loss, coordination issues, and physical deterioration. ​
